KeySigned support

A local vehicle-condition record for anyone taking custody of someone else's vehicle, or handing a car over to a buyer. What KeySigned is

Requirements

  • An ARKit-capable iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
  • Camera permission for vehicle capture and damage photographs.
  • LiDAR is optional. On iPhone Pro models with LiDAR you can choose a spatial scan; other supported iPhones use the guided eight-photo inspection.
  • Location permission is optional and used only to suggest the collection address.

Before starting

Use ordinary, even daylight where possible. Leave enough safe space to walk around the vehicle. Avoid moving vehicles, people crossing the capture path, heavy rain, deep shadow and strong glare. Clean the camera lenses.

If capture will not start

  • Open iPhone Settings and confirm Camera access is enabled for KeySigned.
  • Make sure the iPhone has free storage and is not too hot. KeySigned will not start a capture while the iPhone is critically hot.
  • Move far enough away to fit the complete vehicle inside the guide.
  • On a LiDAR scan, wait for AR tracking to return to Normal before continuing.

If a scan was interrupted

Reopen the unfinished record and return to the same physical area. Move the iPhone slowly until ARKit recognises the scene. If relocalisation cannot be verified, the app will refuse to merge incompatible spatial coordinates; start a new scan instead.

Records and backups

KeySigned has no remote backup, and its records are kept out of iCloud and computer backups. Records remain inside the app on this iPhone, and deleting the app deletes every record. Use Export all records, and keep the archive somewhere safe, before the app or the iPhone is removed.

Evidence verification

Open the locked record and tap Evidence pack. It checks the files as it opens. When they match, the line under Integrity reads "Checked. The files on this iPhone match the seal." Tap that line to check again. A failed check means a required file is missing or no longer matches the seal. Do not present that record as checked.

Common questions

Does it work with no signal?

Yes. Capture, damage marks, signatures, locking, sealing and the in-app check all run on the iPhone without a connection. Two things need one: the address suggestion (just type the address) and sending a copy by email or message (AirDrop works without signal, or send it later). If KeySigned can't reach the App Store, it goes by what this iPhone last heard from Apple, so being offline doesn't change what your plan allows.

Why won't it let me lock the record?

It locks only when the record is complete: capture finished, registration, mileage and both names filled in, at least one damage mark or "No visible damage" confirmed, and a close-up or written reason for every mark. Both signatures must be on the current version, so any change after signing needs fresh ones. Let any 3D processing finish. A written reason needs at least 10 characters. A return record also needs every area compared with its collection record, and a mark for each new concern. KeySigned flags what's missing before you hand the phone over. A handover started more than 48 hours ago also needs an active plan before it can be signed and locked.

How can my customer check the record hasn't been changed?

Checking needs the complete evidence pack (the .zip), so send them that: Send the customer their copy attaches it. They open keysigned.app/verify.html in an up-to-date browser and select the .zip; nothing is uploaded. The customer record page on its own can't be checked. Publish your signing fingerprint (App settings) so customers can confirm the record came from your phone.

What does "sealed" mean, and what doesn't it?

When you lock the record after both have signed, KeySigned fingerprints every file in it and signs the result with a key held on your iPhone. Change one photo, mark or mileage afterwards and the check fails. It's tamper evidence: it shows change, but can't prevent it or stop deletion. It isn't a trusted timestamp: the time comes from the phone. It isn't proof of who signed or proof the condition recorded is complete, and it isn't encryption.

What happens if I change or lose my phone?

Before switching, finish open jobs, including returns: a return must be made on the iPhone holding its collection record. Then Export all records and keep the archive. Records can't be loaded into KeySigned on the new phone, but every exported evidence pack can still be opened and checked. The new iPhone has a new signing fingerprint, so publish that. A lost phone takes unexported records with it.

How do I put my business name and role on reports?

Tap ••• on the home screen, then App settings, Your business. Enter your business name, phone, email and "Your role on reports", such as Detailer or Technician (it says Mechanic if left blank). These print at the top of every customer report and are sealed into the record. Records already started keep the details they began with, so set this up before your first real job.

What happens if my subscription lapses?

You can't start a brand-new handover until you renew. A handover you started in the last 48 hours can still be finished, signed and sealed, and the return leg of a car you've already collected is never charged. A handover left open for longer stays on your iPhone and can be sealed once you renew. Every sealed record stays readable and exportable, nothing is deleted and checking records keeps working. Renew through the App Store whenever you're ready.

How do I get a refund?

App Store purchases are taken and refunded by Apple, not by us, so we can't see your payment details or refund you ourselves. Ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, signed in with the Apple Account you paid with. To stop future payments, cancel in iPhone Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions. A refund or cancellation never deletes or changes your records, and you can still open and export them.
